Thirsty Thursday: 6 Aphrodisiac Cocktails for Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is one of those holidays that, whether you are single or in a happy relationship, you either love or you hate it.  Even if you aren’t a hopeless romantic with plans for a magical evening, February 14th can still be the perfect opportunity for a great cocktail.

By combining alcohol with some delicious aphrodisiac ingredients, these cocktails will work double duty to put you and your hot date in the Valentine’s Day mood.  They taste equally delicious if your hot date is bed and a good book.  And not only are aphrodisiacs good for your you-know-what drive, some of these ones are pretty healthy for you too. Whether the food effects your hormones, energy level, or just your mind, try these cocktails if you want to turn up the romance this Valentine’s Day:

1. Chili Peppers – Chili Lime Margarita (via My Life as a Mrs.)

Adding a spicy kick to your cocktail with some chili simple syrup is the perfect way to spice up your evening.  And if you want to keep the colors festive for Valentine’s day, swap out the green jalapeños for some red chills.

2. Chocolate – Double Chocolate Stout Ice Cream Float (via the Kitchn)

Is there anything more romantic than chocolate?  And with just two ingredients, ice cream and chocolate stout, you won’t have to miss any romance time whipping a few of these up.  And for some extra aphrodisiac flare, don’t forget whipped cream and a cherry.

3. Figs – Fresh Fig and Honey Cocktail Recipe (via The Shiksa in the Kitchen)

This festively pink cocktail actually combines two aphrodisiac ingredients; figs and honey.  Fresh figs aren’t used in cocktails too often, so this cocktail is the perfect treat for a special occasion.

4. Coffee – Keoke Coffee Cocktail (via Yum Sugar)

Instead of ending a date night meal with a regular cup of coffee, you can elevate it for an evening of romance by adding kahluha, creme de cacao and brandy (woah).  And if you are a member of the lonely hearts club, this coffee will help you get to sleep and forget all about Valentine’s Day.

5. Strawberries – Strawberry Smash Cocktail (via Cookie and Kate)

Strawberries and Valentine’s Day are a natural pairing, whether the berries are dipped in chocolate or mixed up in a cocktail.  By combining strawberries, basil, lemon and honey, this cocktail isn’t too sweet, but it is definitely sweet enough.

6. Pomegranate – Pomegranate and Gin Cocktail with Muddled Rosemary (via Olive and Herb)

Pomegranate is one of the most delicious super fruits out there, but since it can be expensive and timely to prepare, you might only have it on special occasions.  Similar to the strawberry cocktail above, the addition of an herb is nice for cutting the sweetness of the fruit.  Just make sure you don’t get anything green stuck in your teeth.

What will you be drinking on Valentine’s Day?
