The Oscars are not just about glitz, glamor and the best movies from the big screen. There are also lesser-known short films that deserve to be in the spotlight like this clip called “Fresh Guacamole” by American director Adam Pesapane (aka PES).
The short film brings us through the guacamole making process from beginning to end and along the way the ingredients transform into everyday objects from poker chips to hand grenades. The few minute long film highlights PES’ strength: using stop animation to create a story.
The idea sprung because PES had always envisioned an grenade as an avocado and not a pineapple like it was commonly referred as. He built the entire film around this concept and filled in the classic ingredients to guacamole from there. The short film is truly magical to watch…and of course has us craving guacamole.
“Fresh Guacamole” is the shortest film ever nominated for on Oscar. When it was released online it received over 3.5 million hits within the first four days. The film was the premiere episode for Showtime’s “Short Stories” online series.
