Wellness Wire: Celebrate National Donut Day the Healthy Way

If you are amongst the donut-eating public then you already know that today is National Donut Day. The one day of the year where you can have your coffee and eat your donut too—if you aren’t doing that already!

The holiday started back in 1938 when the Salvation Army passed out donuts to soldiers who were fighting in the front lines of WWI. The holiday has stuck ever since

It seems like an oxymoron but healthy donuts do exist. And even the healthy version counts as an epic pastry.

1. Chocolate Baked Donuts from Naturally Ella

There is whole wheat pastry flour in the chocolate and you wouldn’t even know it. Plus it is like biting into a painting because they are oh-so-pretty.

  1. Oh donuts. I used to love them. I haven’t had a donut in FOREVER. And when I say forever I mean like 11 years. No joke. I remember when I was little, my dad would always go to the grocery store on Sundays… My siblings and I would always go with him because he would let us get a donut!! My mom would have killed him if she knew this was happening, however she did find out one day when I showed her a paper I wrote in like 3rd or 4th grade… Because I wrote how my father would treat us to donuts on Sunday. She flipped – LOL! Hmmm, is this Flash Back Friday or something?
