Spread the Wellness - Meet Alexandra from Fun and Fit

When you think about fitness the word “fun” probably doesn’t come to mind. But if you have ever wandered over to Fun and Fit you would not only think that fitness is fun, but that you can actually laugh during a workout.

The fresh, humorous perspective on the world of fitness is brought to life by two qualified and hilarious twins Alexandra and Kymberly. That’s right, you get double the humor and expertise if you are a fan of their site.

We are putting the spotlight on the Alexandra, the older twin (by 8 whole minutes) today but expect to learn more about Kymberly soon! Alexandra has a true passion for fitness that all started when she taught her first aerobics class back in her teen years. Since then she has been obsessed with fitness, people and a microphone—the perfect combination for being a superb fitness instructor and co-host of her international online radio show “Fun and Fit.”

On the Fun and Fit site BYOB means you need to Bring Your Own Ball and your abs are in the leading role. Alexandra gives lots of tips on the right and WRONG way to being doing certain moves equipped with videos so you can see the correct form…which we love, love, love. Plus you can get lots of ideas beyond fitness on living a very put together healthy lifestyle.

Get inside the brain of Alexandra and you might come away a bit healthier, but definitely with a touch of humor on your side.

Most adventurous fitness moment: That’s a hard one, as I’ve been in this industry for 30 years, so I’ll cheat and give you a few. In my early 30s I took a rock-climbing class in Boulder. Going up was no problem, but when they said “lean backward into space and rappel down,” I had to have a long talk with myself. It goes against the logical mind to lean back into nothing! Another was when I was working at the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics. I went skiing at Banff/Lake Louise and thought it would be a good time to try the black diamond moguls. I got down (eventually), but I think I left my pride at the top of the mountain. Serious dorkage.

Workout quirks? What a bummer, as I am not sure I have any. However, I did show up once to teach a high impact cardio class, only to discover the cat had peed on my bra. I taught without it, and did all my moves holding my arms across my chest. Not a quirk, but “special” nonetheless.

Fitness pet peeves: Ha, this one is easy. When the instructor who teaches before I do leaves the microphone cord all twisted up and the power on and on high volume. Wrecks the mic, the sound system, and my mood!

Any tips for staying fit on a budget? I want to say something really exciting, and the truth is I could write a whole book on this, but I’ll say a few that work for me. 1. Do any movement that you like – I like to dance, so I crank up the Led Zeppelin and dance while doing housework; 2. Go for a walk; 3. Do your strength training using canned food from your cupboard. Why buy a 5 pound weight when a bag of rice will do the trick?

Favorite piece of fitness garb? Anything that keeps me from embarrassing myself. My cleavage keeps trying to move south. However, I have a reconstructed knee and fused toe, so my most important piece of apparel is good shoes. And any capris that make my butt look curvy.

Biggest thing you have learned about yourself when living a healthy lifestyle:  That I don’t have to be skinny, tall and long-legged to look and feel attractive. And that I can kick my university students’ butts, even though they’re 30 years younger, because I have a history of exercise. I also learned that if you are comfortable in your own skin, you radiate an energy that draws others to you. Do you feel yourself being magnetized right now?
