With great sweat, comes great responsibility!
What do I mean exactly?
While hitting the gym and getting in our workouts is certainly a must, it’s crucial that we take the time to prep and pamper our skin directly after sweating it out, too.
Oftentimes, we’re so pooped from our workouts that we get home only to lounge around in our sweaty clothing and sweaty faces. If this sounds familiar to you, here’s some advice: Stop!
Wash your face and take off your drenched gym clothes directly after your workout to prevent clogged pores on your face and body.
That being said, this is only the first step to beautiful, glowing skin. I found the use of facial mists especially handy to use post-workout for a dose of moisture without the hassle, but that’s not all.
You can use face mists right after you wash your skin any time (of the day or night) to balance pH levels and prep it for following lotions, as a quick pick-me-up in the middle of the work day, or to freshen up your make up!
Here is a list of my all-time favorites that I would totally recommend everyone invest in.
1. Avène Eau Thermale ($12.40, SkinStore)
This French mineral water spray is an all-around great option for face mist beginners. It’s great after your facial cleanser for a dose of minerals and instant skin-balancing, or as a freshener in the middle of the day. I buy the miniature version to carry in my bag and prefer to use it after I have washed my face at the gym. A few spritz and I’m out the door sans makeup.
2. Caudalie Beauty Elixir ($18, Sephora)
I keep this in my desk drawer at all times. It’s no revelation that sitting for long hours in front of a desk can sometimes be less than stimulating. A quick few sprays of this can get me wide awake. The scent is so incredible. As a matter of fact, it’s so potent (in a good way) that people have been known even to use it in times of motion sickness – so it’s perfect for long car, plane and boat rides. While I prefer it for the scent, it’s also used for tightening pores and improving skin health.
3. Jurlique Rose Balancing Mist ($35, Sephora)
For everyone who deals with either a dull complexion, breakouts or sensitive skin, this is a godsend. I won’t lie. My skin regimen is totally elaborate, but this Jurlique Rose Balancing Mist is an essential step. I will always spray this on post-cleanser or post-exfoliation. This balances the pH of my skin while keeping it hydrated. Oh yeah, it also smells lovely.
4. MISSHA Time Revolution First Treatment Essence ($35, SOKO GLAM)
If you have dry skin, look no further. I use this “essence” right after I have patted in my rose balancing mist (previously mentioned). It’s like a more affordable SKII with a similar/equal effectiveness. This Korean brand takes moisture to the next level giving you that perfect glow.
5. Glossier Soothing Face Mist ($18, Glossier)
For a quick freshener throughout the day, this face mist is ideal and comes from a brand we’re totally in love with. It works best in conjunction with the rest of the Glossier Phase 1 Kit, but we don’t mind buying this on its own for its smell alone.
6. Benton Aloe BHA Skin Toner ($16.90, Amazon)
Dealing with horribly sensitive, red, breakout-prone or dry skin? This is your saving grace. Aloe has long been known to alleviate and soothe skin conditions from acne to sunburns and now this potent little toner is using it to its full potential. While I typically spray this on as my “second toner” – after the MISSHA essence -you can also use this toner directly after you wash your face for a more streamlined routine.
7. Evian Mineral Water Spray ($12.50, Sephora)
Talk about the basics! This spray has been around for a long time and for good reason. It’s easy, functional and totally cost-efficient. The best way to use this one is either post-workout or post-make up for a dewier look.
8 . Make Up For Ever Mist & Fix ($30, Sephora)
I always feel like my makeup looks phenomenal in the morning, but by 3 o’clock, I always look less than stellar. A quick spritz of this at the end of your makeup routine and your make up will set for hours on end. You can also use this to “fix” your makeup mid-day as well.
